Signs of vicarious trauma in educators

Educators who listen to children’s detailed disclosures of harm can experience emotional, physical, and psychological effects similar to PTSD, known as vicarious trauma. This short course, developed by iSTEP-Global experts, helps teachers and school staff identify the early warning signs of flashbacks, emotional exhaustion, reduced empathy, and changes in behavior or worldview. By recognizing these signs early, educators can take steps to seek support, and maintain their well-being.

Neurobiology of trauma: Psycho-education in schools

In this in-depth overview course, iSTEP-Global experts share how the neurobiology of traumatic memory explains how the brain processes and stores experiences of trauma differently from autobiographical memory (the memory of everyday experiences). Participants learn how educators and support staff can explain the neurobiology of trauma to children and adolescents, their parents/caregivers , and support staff in a transformational way that enhances meaning-making, facilitates empowerment, and leads to healing.

Tier 3 Intensive individualized trauma therapy for children and adolescents

iSTEP-Global's Tier 3 Intensive individualized interventions in-depth overview course explores individualized therapeutic interventions delivered by licensed mental health professionals, for children experiencing severe or complex trauma. Participants will learn about the purpose and scope of Tier 3 within a multi-tiered system of support, empirically-based therapies, and communities of support with caregivers, teachers and agencies.

Tier 2 Targeted evidence-based group trauma-informed interventions

iSTEP-Global's Tier 2: Trauma-Sensitive Targeted Interventions in Schools in-depth overview course focuses on understanding additional, small-group support for students who show signs of trauma-related challenges but do not require intensive clinical care. Participants will learn how to identify students in need of Tier 2 support, implement evidence-informed interventions, and monitor progress within a trauma-sensitive framework.
