Are there different ways to access the materials?
All the online materials can be adapted in a variety of ways such as larger text and speech enabled.
How do I register for a course?
Go to the Our Courses pages https://istep-global.com/our-courses/. Select the online course you want to participate in by clicking on the course picture or the ‘enroll now’ tab. On the next page click on ‘enroll in this course’. You will then complete the personal details and payment details online form. Once completed and submitted you will be provided access to the course.
Do I have to do a whole course(s) or can I do one or two lessons?
There are 3 types of courses. Single lesson short-courses (30 mins to 1hr); in-depth overview courses (4 hours) and deep-dive courses, with up to 12 lessons (12 hours). Participants engage in self-paced learning and earn points towards additional material.
How long are the videos?
Videos are in short chunks (5-10 minutes) to aid accessibility, reviewing, and retention, and to fit with when, where, and how long you want to listen.
Do I have to do all the assignments?
No. It is recommended you complete the assignments as they are based on applied knowledge to deepen learning. At the end of the course you receive a ‘certificate of completion.’
What are the assigments?
Assignments involve journals, posters, flyers, presentations, short summaries, case study analysis, and development plans etc. They result in products that participants can use in practice or for education purposes.
Do I have to pass the lesson or course assignments?
Assessment is not based on a pass/fail or grade but on self-assessment of applied knowledge. Rubrics are provided with core knowledge to ensure students have learned the main messages.
How do I know if I’ve got the right answers?
Rubrics are provided after the assignment to indicate mastery of knowledge and appropriate application to your context.
Can I do the assignments more than once?
Yes, as long as you find yourself gaining new insights, you can repeat assignments as often as you like? Students have access to a course for 1 year.
Do I have to complete the journal for each course?
Reflection is a core aspect of learning. It is recommended you develop a journal to facilitate the application of learning to context. However, students will have their own preferred style of learning.
Is there a specific model for reflection?
Journals are a personal tool for learning and have to fit with the learner’s style. Guidance is provided to help you identify your learning style along with a variety of different methods to facilitate deep applied learning.
Do I have permanent access to the material?
Participants have access to the material through their login for one year. Material will be updated over the year and you will automatically have access to the most recent version of courses.
Can I share the materials with others?
Course materials are copyright and you do not have permission to share with others. Assignments, however, have been designed for you to create your own practice, or open education materials that you can share. The materials participants create will cite iSTEP-Global and be under a creative commons license.
Do I get a continuing professional development certificate for completing a course?
When you complete the course content, you will receive a professional development certificate of completion with your hours of engagement recorded.
How long does it take to complete a lesson or course?
A short-course takes 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete. Courses are made up of multiple lessons and take 30 minutes to 12 hours. As learning is self-paced the completion timescale is up to you. One short-course a week (30 mins to 1 hour) is standard.
How much does a course?
Courses range in price depending on how many lessons there are. For example, a short-course costs £15, an indepth-overview course costs £56, whereas a deep-dive course of 12 lessons costs around £145.
What is the iSTEP-Global Scholarship Program (iSTEP-GSP)?
Scholarships enable individuals, groups, and organization in extreme crisis and conflict settings to receive funding to complete courses. Scholarships are advertised on the website and social media.
How do I donate money to the Global Scholarship Program?
Go to the Donation page and follow the simple steps to donate funds for a specific scholarship to enable those in crisis and conflict settings to be financially supported in their learning.
Is there a global network of alumni?
Participants who complete at least one course join as alumni. New courses, other activities and free resources are sent out to the alum list.
